Sight-reading. This is a piece of music especially written for the exam and will only have been seen by anyone during the year that it is being used. For the early grades, the piece of music is around eight bars long and has simple rhythms and keys to deal with. For the higher grades, sight-reading is progressively harder with technique, rhythms and styles. Common areas missed by pupils are ignoring the key signature and playing every note with the same rhythm. Adding the written dynamics will considerably improve your marks. The pass mark for sight-reading is 14/21.
